Test of AudioBlogger.com post from Skype.com

Here's a test of posting to my Blogger.com blog using AudioBlogger.com and speaking from my Skype.com account:

The audio quality of the above call is about as awful as possible and still be understood. The GizmoProject softphone is not much better when used with AudioBlogger. The problem seems to be with the AudioBlogger service when matched with VoIP softphones.

Test of AudioBlogger.com posting from my home phone.

This audio test works fine, except for the weak voice amplification.

Of the three test recordings to AudioBlogger done tonight, this phone call is best, the voice quality is clear; whereas, the GizmoProject and Skype calls are distorted audio, especially the Skype. (This means there's a mismatch between the AudioBlogger service and the aforementioned VoIP softphones.)

It's not really a 'podcast', but only an audioblog. :-(

I just tried subscribing with iPodder to the my RSS newsfeed for this Experiment in Bloggging weblog. It did not work, probably because the MP3 audio file referenced in the posting is not coded as an 'enclosure'.

Hence, this is just "audioblogging" and not "podcasting", a similar but far inferior thing -- no one can 'subscribe'. :-(

AudioBlogger.com has not completed the "last mile", and it's "not ready for primetime" yet.

An experiment in 'podcasting': here's my first audioblog posting.

This post constitutes my first 'podcast'.

Update:

Hey, the audioblog posting worked well, it has nice voice quality from just using my home telephone as a microphone. Unfortunately, since this was created with AudioBlogger.com, I have no way of editing out my hums-and-haws, nor mixing in other audio.

This is a sort of podcasting-lite facility, since I cannot manipulate the the mp3 file on my local PC. Also, since it costs a long distance phone call, I can "feel the clock ticking".

Wired 12.05: Poindexter Confidential

Wired 12.05: Poindexter Confidential

http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/12.05/poindexter.html

"John Poindexter's career has played out in the headlines: Iran-Contra conspirator, the Pentagon's Big Brother in chief, godfather of a futures market to predict terrorism. But there's an alternate reality: The 67-year-old retired admiral is the only serious technologist ever to reach the highest circles of power in Washington. He's a Caltech PhD who two decades ago dragged the White House into the digital age, plugging in everything from fiber-optic video to email. He uses Groove Networks' Workspace to keep in touch with friends and rhapsodizes about encryption like a cypherpunk. In the first interview since Congress forced him to step down last summer as head of DARPA's Information Awareness Office, Poindexter speaks out about privacy, sim terrorists, and Iraqi WMD."

If Adm. Poindexter uses Groove, it's a kind of recommendation so I checked out the software and found it very interesting, both in its P2P concept and in its potential future impact on IT. After trying it over the weekend, I see I will probably become a Groove user.
