The theoritical vocabulary used in the above articles, which borrows from economics and from (social) network systems studies, maybe useful in understanding the role of undercover police work by providing a common scheme for both the FBI fighting the Mob and the Gestapo fighting anti-Nazis. It seems suggestive of a 'General Systems' approach in that it finds isomorphisms between hitherto thought incommensurable phenomena. An epidemiology of social memes?
